GENERAL INFORMATION

The Peter Eötvös Contemporary Music Foundation announces a master course for conductors in cooperation with Musica Viva / BR, Bayerisches Landesjugendorchester and Stockhausen Stiftung.
The Conductor Academy program will be organized in the frame of the Stockhausen Festival of Musica Viva in Munich.
The call is open for conductors of all nationalities, without age limit. This course is suitable for advanced conducting students and professional conductors with special interest in Stockhausen oeuvre.

Stockhausen: HYMNEN (Dritte Region) Elektronische Musik mit Orchester

The Bayerisches Landesjugendorchester will participate in the program in two phases:
9th-11th October, analysis and rehearsals, led by Prof. Pedro Amaral and Wolfgang Lischke
16th-18th October, Prof. Peter Eötvös will attend the academy program and will lead the course and orchestral rehearsals.

We accept applications for the first phase without limit. At the end of this phase the applicants who would like to become "active" in the second phase shall demonstrate that they have suitable knowledge and technique by presenting the work. Up to four applicants will be selected as “active” participants for the second phase.
Observers are also encouraged to apply and will be fully involved in the course.

Language of the course: English, German, French

Organizers may accept enrolments after the deadline date if places are still available.

1st phase:
9th October 15.00-22.00 meeting, analysis, observing sectional rehearsals
10th October 10.00-19.00 observing sectional rehearsals conducted by the professors
10th October 19.00-21.30 participants conduct sectional rehearsals
11th October 10.00-15.00 participants conduct sectional rehearsals
11th October 15.00 active participant selection announcement

2nd phase:
16th October 15.00-21.00 meeting, sectional rehearsals for active participants
17th October 10.00-22.00 sectional rehearsals for active participants (with Prof. Eötvös)
18th October 10.00-15.00 tutti rehearsal for active participants (with Prof. Eötvös)

For rehearsal purposes, the Stockhausen Foundation can send a mono mix of the electronic music to the individual conductors as mp3 or the stereo files with the individual rehearsal tracks per Webtransfer (these must then be burned onto a CD). The conductors should write directly to Stockhausen Stiftung.

They can send rental scores to conductors in return for reimbursement of postage. Those who wish to keep the scores could then buy them for the normal purchase price.
Unfortunately the score of HYMNEN for Orchestra is not yet digitised.

DIPLOMAS AND CERTIFICATES

Active participants will receive diploma, observers will receive attendance certificate, signed by all professors.

* The Bavarian State Youth Orchestra, mentored by the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio, prepared Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Hymnen as part of a conducting and orchestral academy to be led by Peter Eötvös and promoted by musica viva. The results of this phase of study will be presented by musica viva in a matinee in the Herkulessaal. An additional piano academy, led by Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Tamara Stefanovich is dedicated to the Klavierstücke by Karlheinz Stockhausen.
