GENERAL INFORMATION
The Peter Eötvös Contemporary Music Foundation announces a master course for conductors and composers
between 21st - 27th February, 2019, in Budapest (Hungary).
The call is open for conductors and composers of all nationalities.
Age limit for active conductors and composers is 35 years, observers are accepted without age limit.
The course is suitable for advanced students and professionals with special interest in contemporary music repertoire.

Special guest: HEINZ HOLLIGER, composer and conductor (Switzerland)

Featuring: Danubia Orchestra Óbuda
Flute soloist: Gergely Ittzés

Language of the course: English, German, French, Hungarian

Budapest Music Center (1093 Budapest, Mátyás u. 8.)



Course program for conductors:

Consultations, rehearsals and concert, conductor camera recording during concert and concert recording.

Heinz Holliger: Turm-Musik (Schott)
Leoš Janáček: Taras Bulba (Universal Wien)
Donghoon Shin: new composition for string orchestra
Mikel Urquiza: new composition for string orchestra

Thorough and detailed knowledge of all works is a requirement of active participation. Each participant must provide his/her own scores of Holliger and Janáček pieces, the foundation provides the two new composition score.

video recording (Only Youtube/ Vimeo links are accepted. Please, send only one link, cut or a link of a playlist, if possible.)

Online application submitted through the website of the foundation is obligatory.

Up to 6 conductors will be accepted as “active” participants. The selection will be based on the video recordings provided by the applicants.
Regarding the videos, we kindly ask you to send us recordings of rehearsals instead of concerts.
We also recommend choosing 20th or 21st century repertoire for conducting.


Course program for composers:

group and private consultations
rehearsals of their pieces (but not played on concert)

submission of a maximum 12 minutes piece for string ensemble: 2-2-2-2-1, or smaller group of strings within this orchestration

Up to 3 composers will be selected as active participants.

Online application submitted through the website of the foundation is obligatory.



Application deadline: 20th December 2018

Confirmation of the active status: until 10th January 2019.



Those who are not selected as active participants, are also welcomed as observers during the master course.
Concerning the unique program we highly recommend to consider this opportunity as well.
Observers can attend all rehearsals, the public meeting and the closing concert.

Observer composers will have private consultations with the professors, too upon discussion.
Observer applications can be accepted until 20 February.

COURSE CONTRIBUTION
Selected active conductors: 600 € (to be paid until 31 January, 2019)
Selected active composers: 200 € (to be paid until 31 January, 2019)
Observers: 100 € (to be paid before 20 February)

Partial attendance gives no right for contribution reduction.
We accept only bank transfer or PayPal payment.

The course contribution includes extra programs:
during the course all participants receive tickets for jazz concerts in the Opus Jazz Club in Budapest Music Center and they can attend the “mustMeet Composers – Holliger” public meeting and concert.

The contribution does not include travel, accommodation and meal, participants shall organize their accommodation. Upon request, we can help to find private or hotel accommodation within walking distance of the venue. Our reliable hotel partner is Hotel Ibis Centrum in the centre of Budapest, we highly recommend their service.



COURSE SCHEDULE (DRAFT)

21-22 February Consultation without orchestra

23-26 February Rehearsals with orchestra for conductors and composers.

25 February Public Meeting with Heinz Holliger

27 February Closing concert



The rehearsals will be recorded on video partially and a short professional documentary film will be available online after the course.
The concert will be available via live stream and a conductor cam recording will be made, too.



DIPLOMAS AND CERTIFICATES
Active participants will receive diploma, observers will receive attendance certificate, signed by all professors.
